AUDIO-VISUAL SCULPTURES / COMPOSITIONS
›Dystotal‹ is an 8 hour long lasting, site filling, electronic composition that I developed especially for the museum context over a time period of one year. In the museum, the composition embodies a shape of a three-dimensional sculpture, that is continuously playing.
›Dystotal’s‹ compositional structure is linear, but not narrative as its not presupposing a critical ›before‹ or ›after‹ that participants have to experience during the museum visit in order to gain a comprehensive understanding.
It is a acoustic plastic, made in such a way, that visitors will understand a seemingly static macroscopic structure at any moment – the holistic quality of the composition, similar to that of a physical sculpture.
By further attentive observing, the listener may discover multitudes of changes on a micro scale. Sound wise, is it an intense long harmonic, polyphonic drone work, that is complex and simple at the same time: far distant, long stretched voice like planes, synthesizers and physical bass movements.
Since the end of 2014, I started a new series of works called ›Dystotal Variations‹. Sonically – yet seldom recognizable – this works are based on the DNA of ›Dystotal‹. But in opposite to ›Dystotal‹, this series is made for narrative concert situations.
In addition, the live concerts are accompanied by new video works that are exploring – as the music – alterations of synergetic and concurrent realities, gradual, evolutionary and process-oriented sound and imagery worlds. At best, these works are triggering chain-reactions in the minds and are challenging an active involvement of the participants – including myself.
